MUSCLE SHOALS & PHIL CAMPBELL, ALA. -- Northwest-Shoals Community College (NW-SCC) and the University of West Alabama (UWA) signed an agreement on Tuesday (7/14) that is designed to make the transfer process easier and create additional scholarship funds for students.
The new agreement allows UWA and NW-SCC to have a clearly defined transfer process that includes academic advising, enhanced communication, and scholarship opportunities. NW-SCC students with a minimum 2.0 grade point average and 45-50 transferable credit hours are guaranteed admission at UWA. Also, students who complete their associate’s degree at NW-SCC are guaranteed admission to UWA.
NW-SCC President Dr. Glenda Colagross and UWA President Dr. Ken Tucker met Tuesday afternoon on the Shoals campus of NW-SCC to sign the partnership agreement.
“This is a great day for our students at Northwest-Shoals Community College,” said Colagross. “Our institutions are coming together to form this partnership that will make their lives easier as they go through the transfer process. I am very appreciative of Dr. Tucker and his team for this opportunity and making the transfer process much more seamless for our students.”
With this new agreement, NW-SCC students on the Shoals and Phil Campbell campus can benefit from additional scholarships. These scholarships range from $3,000 to $4,000 per year and are renewable for up to four consecutive semesters. To be eligible for the academic scholarship, a transfer student must have a 3.0 or higher GPA.
According to the UWA website, NW-SCC is one of eight other community colleges in Alabama and Mississippi to sign similar agreements.
“Providing a pathway for students to further their education, thereby enhancing their quality of life, is at the forefront of UWA’s mission,” said Dr. Ken Tucker, UWA President. “Partnerships like those we have formed with these community colleges help students navigate the transfer process while finding the educational opportunities at UWA that best fit their career goals.”
