The Transitional Studies Division at Northwest-Shoals Community College seeks to provide students with the opportunity to develop foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics so that they might be successful in a college-level curriculum while they pursue their educational, professional, and personal goals.
Welcome from the Division Chair
Hi! I am Ginger Long, chair of the Transitional Studies Division at Northwest-Shoals Community College. NW-SCC serves students who come from a variety of academic backgrounds, and the Transitional Studies Division specifically serves those who need to strengthen foundational skills or take a refresher course as they begin their college careers. No matter the level of preparation, all students bring to college important life skills, experiences, and strengths that are vital to college success.
NW-SCC Transitional Studies Division’s faculty and staff believe that, with a little help, all students can experience success in college. New students take the COMPASS test, and then, based on test scores, advisors help students register for appropriate English, reading, and math courses. Students who test into three transitional courses (English, reading, and math) are also advised to take Orientation 105. This learning community offers students caring instructors who mentor students throughout their first semester.
Welcome to the Transitional Studies Division. Let us help you successfully complete the first step on your ladder of college success!
