Planning

The purpose of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) Planning Team is to construct and implement procedrues that ensure all college constituencies have involvement in the identification, selection, and acceptance of a QEP topic. Once several viable topics have been identified, the QEP Team will present the best alternative to the SACS Leadership Team for final selection.

The QEP Team will use focus groups, surveys, web sites, and meetings to encourage and promote college wide participation of faculty, staff, students, and alumni in identifying areas for improving student learning at NW-SCC and recommend two to four topics of substantial merit to the SACS Leadership Team by March 2007.

Phase 1: Initial Planning - IN PROCESS (Completed)

The principal objective of this phase is to identify what will be required for QEP development and to begin the work of identifying a topic of substantial merit. Preliminary work involves examining the NW-SCC Strategic Plan and QEP topics developed by other institutions. The goal of Phase 1 is to create a list of relevant topics that warrant further inquiry. The following tasks will be accomplished during February-October 2006.

  • Develop and distribute a survey instrument regarding the importance of identified potential topics along with further solicitation of additional topics
  • Integrate results to develop major topic areas
  • Request college community feedback to identify feasible candidate topics
  • Evaluate the need for use of the CCSSE instrument
  • Develop promotional ideas to market the QEP concept to the college

Phase 2: QEP Topic Selection (Completed)

The objective of Phase 2 is to ensure the viability of topics identified in Phase 1 regarding student learning, assessment, budgetary implications, a research-based foundation, and overall value to the college. The team will evaluate these areas and combine feedback previously received from the college community as criteria for choosing a topic. The following tasks will be accomplished during November 2006 - March 2007:

  • Recruit selected NW-SCC faculty to develop background research on topic area and its potential for improving student learning
