Auto Mechanics

The Auto Mechanics program at Northwest-Shoals Community College is structured to produce technicians capable of performing high-quality repairs and maintenance.  Special emphasis is placed on the use of modern testing equipment to identify and locate malfunctions.  Basic scientific principles and technical information are taught to give the student a better understanding of the cause of mechanical or electrical failures.  The current Auto Mechanics curriculum is taught during the extended evening program only; therefore, completion may require more than four semesters.

The successful student will become skilled in making scientific diagnosis and performing necessary repairs and adjustments to the various systems of the automobile, including engine, suspension and steering, power train, braking, emissions, fuel, electrical, and air conditioning systems.

The graduate of this curriculum will be prepared to enter the automobile service industry as an entry level automobile technician, service manager, parts person, or auto specialist.
