Associate in Occupational Technology Degree (AOT)*

The purpose of the Associate in Occupational Technology Degree is to provide accessible quality educational opportunities for students seeking a combination of technically oriented courses to meet specific career objectives and the opportunity to become multi-skilled technicians.  In addition to completing the general education requirements, students will also complete course work in both a primary and a secondary technical specialty (a "major" and a "minor").  Students must meet general admissions requirements for degree program prior to enrolling in core courses.

 

Core Degree Requirements for the Associate in Occupational Technology Degree

Area I:

Written Composition

English Composition I and/or Technical Writing

Area II: Humanities and Fine Arts 3-6
Area III:

Natural Science and Mathematics

 

A minimum of 3 hours in degree creditable mathematics is required. The additional 6 hours of degree creditable coursework may be taken from disciplines of math, biology, chemistry, physical sciences, physics, environmental technology and computers science.

Area IV: History, Social and Behavioral Sciences

Courses may be taken from the disciplines of history, economics, geography, political science, psychology, and sociology.

Technical Specialties

 

Major:  Primary Technical Specialty

A minimum of 28 hours in a single content area is required....................28

 

Minor:  Secondary Technical Specialty

A minimum of 12 credit hours in another related technical area..............12

Students desiring to pursue this degree combining two of the technical areas should develop a formal degree program plan in consultation with an advisor in the technical areas of planned study.

Only one A.O.T. Degree will be awarded without the expressed prior approval of the Chief Academic Office.

*Awarding of this degree and its programs are subject to the approval of the Chancellor's Office.
