Highway Construction Training

Asphalt Technician Training is designed to Develop and maintain an pool of well-trained hot mix asphalt technicians.  After completing the program, the Hot Mix Asphalt Technician will be certified to manage and test hot mix asphalt materials.

An Asphalt Technician is trained to improve the quality and performance of hot mix asphalt through knowledge and understanding of the product.  Courses are taught by certified instructors during the months of October through April of each year.  Classes are offered by special request when 8 or more participants can attend.

REQUIREMENTS FOR:

Nuclear Safety - The Nuclear Safety program requires completion of 8 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction.  The course includes instruction in the rules, regulations, and health hazards related to radioactive materials, and the operation of nuclear gauges.

Roadway Technician - The Roadway Technician program requires completion of 40 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction.  The course includes areas of radiological safety, reading, and controlling nuclear gauges and random sampling in the paving process.

Asphalt Technician Level I - The Asphalt Technician Level I program requires completion of 40 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction.  The prerequisites for this course includes areas of radiological safety, reading and controlling nuclear gauges.

Aggregate Training - The Aggregate Training program requires completion of 16 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction.  The course includes training and certification of qualified technicians to manage the Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs for aggregate materials.

 


Concrete Training Program

 

This training program covers the certification requirements of the Alabama Concrete Industries Association and the Alabama Department of Transportation.  In many instances, company owners, plant managers, ready-mix concrete truck drivers, batch control operators, engineers, concrete finishers, and sales representatives would benefit from this training.

ACT Level I Field Testing

This is a one day course which involves lecture, a written exam, and an actual hands-on test.  Successful completion of the course results in certification as a Level I Field Testing Technician.  An individual must have ACI Level I certification or a comparable practical exam in order to be certified as a Concrete Technician.

Concrete Technician Certification

This is a two day course which involves lecture and a written exam on the regulations of concrete required by the ALDOT.  Successful completion will enable a Concrete Technician to do the actual mixing of the sand, gravel, cement, and water used to make the concrete.  They will also be qualified to run various testing procedures to determine the quality of the concrete.

 

ACI Level I Field Testing

The ACI Level I Field Testing Technicians program consists of classroom instruction and successful completion of a written test and a hands-on test which will be given by a professional engineer.
