General Information: Students are expected to arrive for class on time and not leave until dismissed. Students are responsible for keeping up with assignments and material covered in class even when they are absent. Any missed material will not be re-taught by the instructor. Students should be certain all pagers and cell phones are turned off and out of sight before coming to class.
Class Attendance Policy: Because class attendance is essential to the accomplishment of course objectives, students are expected to attend all class meetings and are strongly discouraged from missing any class except in the case of an emergency. With the exception of mandatory college functions (ex. Scholar’s Bowl, athletic and music/drama events, etc.), there are no excused absences in this college. Daily participation and tests cannot be made-up; therefore, absence from class will hurt the final class evaluation.
Make-up Policy: With exception of novel essays, one missed essay can be made up on the
make-up / revision day as scheduled on the syllabus. If a student has missed no essays, he or she may revise one essay for a better grade on this date. Only one essay can be made up; other missed essays will receive the grade of 0. Missed novel essays, quizzes, and tests cannot be made up.
Conferences: Students are encouraged to schedule a conference any time during the semester about their progress and improvement.
Grading Policy: The final grade for this course will come from performance on essays, exams, quizzes, class participation, and any other assignment that the instructor gives. Essays will comprise most of the course content; they will be graded based on development and support, grammar and mechanics, thesis and organization, unity, coherence, and diction. The grading policy will be discussed in length on the first day of class.
