General Information: Students are expected to arrive for class on time and not leave until dismissed. Grammar lectures will be given at the beginning of scheduled classes. Students are responsible for keeping up with assignments and material covered in each class even when they are absent. Any missed material will not be re-taught by the instructor. Students should be certain all pagers and cell phones are turned off before coming to class.
Class Attendance Policy: Because class attendance is essential to the accomplishments of course objectives, students are expected to attend all class meetings and are strongly discouraged from missing any class except in the case of and emergency. With the exception of mandatory college functions (ex. Scholars Bowl, athletic and music/drama events), there are no excused absences in this college. Daily participation, reading/writing assignments, and tests cannot be made-up; therefore, absence from class will hurt the final class evaluation.
Make-up Policy: One missed essay can be made up with no penalty on the make-up / revision day as scheduled on the syllabus. If a student has missed no essays, he or she may revise one essay for a better grade. Only one essay can be made up; other missed essays will receive the grade of 0.
Grading: Seventy-five percent (75%) of the final grade will be the average of all paragraph/essay grades. The other twenty-five percent (25%) will include an average of grammar tests, CD grammar tests, vocabulary tests, workbook lessons, video tape sheets, and reading/writing assignments. Based on major errors made in writing, reinforcement assignments will be made on an individual basis using Glencoe Interactive Grammar CDs.
