Distance Education Student Handbook

Northwest-Shoals Broadcasting

On August 1, 2000, Northwest-Shoals Community College became the first two-year college in the state of Alabama to operate a cable television channel.  Northwest-Shoals began broadcasting programs on a 24 hour a day, seven day a week cable channel through a partnership with Comcast Cable of Florence, Alabama.  This partnership enables Northwest-Shoals to deliver distance education courses, cable-assisted courses, adult education programs, and community service programs to over 32,000 homes in the northwest Alabama region.  The Northwest-Shoals cable station digital cable channel 192, supports the Distance Education Program in providing education to those students who would not normally have access to education opportunities.  In addition, Northwest-Shoals has an agreement with Charter Communications to expand broadcast capability into the viewing area of our Phil Campbell campus service area.
