Northwest-Shoals Women’s Basketball will bring into the 09-10 season experience, speed and high expectations.  The Patriot’s will line up with experience from seven sophomores that were major contributors in the 08-09, 22-6 record. Returning will be starting point guard, China McDaniel.   McDaniel will run the up-tempo style of play for the Patriots offense and set the tone at the top of the key with pressure defense.  McDaniel averaged seven points for the squad as a freshman and among the top in assist and steal categories in the state. At the perimeter will be Paige Hood and Erin Parrish at the two spot.  Parrish averaged eight points as a freshman and provided solid outside shooting along with competitiveness and leadership.

Sophomores2009 Hood is a sharp shooter from the perimeter and will mix it up on the boards.  At the threespot for the Patriots will be Jasmine Horne and ReRe BellHorne averaged eight points last season and has really stepped up the game going into the sophomore season.  Horne is an explosive slasher to the basket but if left open will knock down the three ball.  Bell is a very versatile player, at 5’9 has the skill to play inside or out.  With strong leaping ability, Bell averaged six rebounds along with seven points last season from the wing.

Rounding out the sophomore class are Charnise Mitchell and Bethany Morgan in the post.  Mitchell, a transfer from Northeast-Mississippi Community College, at 6’2 will provide height in the paint as well as speed and solid outside skills.  Morgan brings size and strength to the paint and has a natural instinct for rebounding the ball.

Assisting McDaniel will be Rogers High School standout Laken WhiteWhite brings size and great passing skills to the position and will open many opportunities for the other four players surrounding the one spot.  Lucy Rigby will also assist McDaniel and White at the point.  Rigby is a very quick and explosive point guard and will flourish in the up-tempo style of play by the patriots.

Supporting the sophomore guards will be freshmen Nikkia Jordan, Elizabeth Dison, and Lakeia Jenkins.  All three are very talented and bring a different dimension to the floor.  Jordan does an excellent job slashing to the basket with great size and strength.  Dison is a sharp shooter from the wing and runs the floor well to lead the Patriots fast break.  Jenkins at 5’9 brings size and solid shooting to the perimeter.

Assisting Mitchell and Morgan in the paint will be freshmen Tamya Thompson and Briana Walker.   Both ladies are very talented and athletic.  Thompson, left handed, is very explosive to the basket and running the floor on the front of the fast break.  Walker brings needed size into the lane for NWS, a solid rebounder and plays well not only facing the basket but solid post moves to mix it up.

This squad is very talented and excited about the upcoming season, they have high expectations and their goals are set.  The Coaching staff already senses a good chemistry for this group and the ability is there, now the work will begin!
