2008 Northwest-Shoals
Volleyball Season Preview

Coach Byrd and the Northwest-Shoals Lady Patriots are ready to get back into action on the court for the 2008 season at the Patriot Center. This season we have a group of talented and dedicated athletes who are ready to step up to the challenge and compete at a great level of play. This year, Northwest-Shoals' Volleyball team will consist of six sophomores and six freshmen. The team is very balanced and highly competitive.

The Patriots' sophomores are: Magen McGuire, a 5'9" middle from Tuscumbia, Alabama; Whitney Cockburn, a 5'10" right side hitter from Florence, Alabama; Katie Martin, a 5'3" libero from Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Ashton Pettus, a 5'3" setter from Florence, Alabama; Kelly Givens, a 5'8" outside hitter from Florence, Alabama, and Megan Springer, a 5'8" outside hitter from Lexington, Alabama. These ladies have played well together and have great experience on and off the court. They will show the freshman guidance and lead them to a great season.

The Patriots' freshmen are: Shannon Thompson, a 5'8" setter from Anniston, Alabama; Stevi Hyche, a 5'10" outside hitter from Cordova, Alabama; Hannah Morgan, a 5'11" right side hitter from Hokes Bluff, Alabama; Chloe Malone, a 5'11" middle hitter from Town Creek, Alabama; and Bethany Morgan, a 6'0" middle hitter from Hokes Bluff, Alabama. These young ladies come from good volleyball programs and they are ready to step in and be a huge factor for the Lady Patriots Volleyball program.

The Lady Patriots have a very challenging schedule this year, which should make for an interesting season. The Patriots will travel as far as Missouri, Illinois, and Florida to compete against some teams that are ranked in the top 15 in the country. The Patriots have a great deal of talent this year as well as depth that will allow them to be able to put a fresh team on the court at any moment. The love of the game coupled with their competitive nature will help this squad on their quest to defend their 2007 ACCC Championship. The Lady Patriots start their season off in Park Hills, Missouri, at the Mineral Area Tournament on August 22nd and 23rd. The Lady Patriots will play their first home match against Gadsden State on September 10th at 7:00 p.m. Please come out and support your Northwest-Shoals Community College Lady Patriots Volleyball Program.
