Angie Byrd, Head Volleyball Coach
Angie
Byrd is in her third season as a head volleyball coach with Northwest-Shoals
Community
College. Byrd has finished her last two seasons with a 69-20 overall record and a 33-1 conference record. Byrd has coached 12 All-Region Team players, 8 ACCC State Tournament All-Tournament Team players, 2 ACCC State Tournament MVP's, an ACCC Player of the Year, and a NJCAA All-American, as well as being named ACCC and Region 22 Coach of the Year for the past two seasons. Prior to becoming the head volleyball coach, Angie served one year as an assistant volleyball coach here at NW-SCC for the 2004-05 season. Angie has also served one year as head women's volleyball coach at Bradshaw High School in Florence, AL. She also was head coach for the Northwest Alabama Volleyball Club for girls ages 13-18 years old during 2006-2008. Angie also served as an instructor for the NW-SCC and UNA Volleyball Camps since the summer of 2000 and with Seward County Community College in 1998-2000. Angie currently runs the NW-SCC Summer Volleyball Camps.
As a player, she was first-team all conference and first-team all-state at Battery Creek High School in Burton, South Carolina. She then went on a scholarship to play at Seward County Community College in Liberal, Kansas where she was selected NJCAA-I Second-Team All-American, a first team all-conference pick and a first-team all-region selection. While at Seward, she ranked first nationally in blocks (2.52 bpg) & fourth in the nation in hitting percentage (.472). Angie went on to play for the University of North Alabama and as a senior ranked third in the nation among middle blockers and was also selected to play in Europe for the USA Junior National Team. While at UNA, she earned a bachelor's degree in Health & Physical Education Recreation (HRER) with an emphasis in Fitness Management and a master's degree in Health Promotion and Human Performance. Angie is also employed full-time at the North Alabama Bone & Joint Clinic as a Rehab Billing and Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Representative.
Angie
now resides in Florence, AL with her husband Doug, daughter Jordyn and son Jalen.
