Times Daily, October 2, 2008 – PATRIOTS STOP SNEAD - Magen McGuire led Northwest-Shoals with 14 kills and five blocks, and the Patriots captured a 25-15, 25-14, 24-26, 25-21 win at Snead State. Megan Springer added 11 kills and 10 digs, Katie Martin had 21 digs and four aces and Kelly Givens finished with nine kills, 12 digs, and eight aces. Shannon Thompson dished out 37 assists and eight digs and Whitney Cockburn had nine kills and nine digs for the Patriots, who remain second in the ACCC standings behind Wallace-Hanceville.
Times Daily, September 27, 2008 - PATRIOTS DEFEAT FAULKNER STATE - Bay Minette - Northwest-Shoals improved to 6-1 in conference play with a win over Faulkner State. Magen McGuire led the Patriots with 11 kills and four blocks. Kelly Givens recorded nine kills and nine digs, and Katie Martin had 18 digs. Shannon Thompson added 34 assists and eight digs.
Northwest-Shoals (19-3) will host Gadsden State on Monday at 7 p.m.

Times Daily, September 18, 2008 - PATRIOTS CRUISE PAST LAWSON STATE - Muscle Shoals - Northwest-Shoals remained unbeaten in conference play wednesday night, sweeping a match from Lawson State at the Patriot Center. The Patriots won the match 25-14, 25-21, 25-7.
Kelly Givens led the Patriots with 13 kills and six digs. Magen McGuire had 10 kills, three blocks, and four aces. Whitney Cockburn had 10 kills and 7 digs, and Shannon Thompson added 31 assists and five kills.
NW-Shoals (12-2, 5-0) will host unbeaten Wallace-Hanceville on Monday.
Times Daily, September 16, 2008 - PATRIOTS EDGE SNEAD STATE - Muscle Shoals - Snead State nearly spoiled Northwest-Shoals first home match of the season Monday night.
In the end, the defending ACCC champs came away with a 3-2 victory over Snead to remain unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. The Patriots are 11-2 overall.
"Snead has a good team and they played well," NW Shoals coach Angie Byrd said. "our blocking wasn't as good as it has been, and our defense was not on point. But, we were abelt o pull out the win."
The Patriots won the match 25-17, 24-26, 25-14, 22-25, 15-8.
Magen McGuire led the way with 18 kills and three blocks, Kelly Givens added 12 kills and seven digs, while Katie Martin had 21 digs.
Shannon Thompson finished with 31 assists.
Northwest-Shoals will play Lawson State at home Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Times Daily, September 14, 2008 -- PATRIOTS FINISH 3-1 AT TOURNAMENT - Pensacola - Northwest-Shoals earned three straight wins after dropping a tournament-opening loss to nationao juggernaut Hillsborough (Fla.) to finish 3-1 at the Pensacola tournament.
The Patriots went four sets before Hillsborough, rnaked 13th in the country, won 21-15, 16-25, 25-29, 19-25.
Whitney Cockburn and Kelly Givens, who both were named to the all-tournament team, led Northwest-Shoals (10-2, 3-0), Cockburn finished with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Givens added 11 kills and 13 digs, and Katie Martinhad 31 digs.
"Playing against a top-10 team in the nation right off the bus, I thought we played pretty well," Northwest-Shoals coach Angie Byrd said. "Later in the afternoon, I think we started to get tired after a long bus ride. But overall, I was happy with the way we competed."
The Patriots rebounded with a 13-25, 25-27, 25-21, 15-25, 16-14 win aginst Pensacola. Magen McGuire had 13 kills and three blocks, while Givens added 11 kills and 13 digs.
Givens tallied 10 kills in a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 win against Northlake, Shannon Thompson dished out 17 assists to go with three aces.
The Patriots capped the tournament with a 25-14, 25-13, 17-25, 25-16 win against Pensacola Christian. McGuire had 10 kills and three blocks, while Thompson had 19 assists and three aces. Chloe Malone added seven kills and two blocks.
Northwest-Shoals will host Snead State on Monday at 7 p.m. in its home-opener.

Times Daily, September 11, 2008 -- PATRIOTS SWEEP FOR WIN AT NO. 25 GADSDEN: Gadsden - Northwest-Shoals knocked off No. 25 Gadsden State in ACCC play Wednesday, winning 3-0 behind some strong defensive play.
The Patriots (7-1, 3-0 ACCC) won 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 as Whitney Cockburn had 16 kills, eight digs, and four blocks.
"Our defense was the key tonight," Coach Angie Byrd said. "We passed well, and that allowed us to set up our offense."
Magen McGuire finished with 10 kills, while Shannon Thompson had 38 assists and three aces. Megan Springer had eight kills and eight digs.
The Patriots travel to Pensacola, Fla., this weekend for a tournament.

Kelly Givens led the Patriots (6-1) with 19 kills and 11 digs. Whitney Cockburn added 11 kills and nine digs, Magen McGuire added 11 kills and four blocks and Katie Martin finished with 27 digs.
